Vail Village faced a wave of uncertainty as rumors of potential U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations prompted businesses to shutter their doors early Wednesday night. By Thursday, the apprehension led to at least two local restaurants opting out of opening for business. Yet, officials from the town of Vail reported no actual ICE activity or federal enforcement actions. Speaking on the matter, Vail Town Manager Russ Forrest clarified, 'We have had no confirmation or contact with ICE regarding any activities within the area, and we are not aware of any arrests taking place.' Forrest acknowledged the prevalent fear that seems to mimic trends in many regions across the country. This incident underscored widespread anxieties, highlighting Vail's shared experience with other U.S. communities. Mayor Barry Davis, inundated with calls from concerned residents, reassured the public of the town's commitment to transparency and communication. Forrest urged residents to reach out to local authorities if they had any specific concerns or needed clarification, emphasizing the availability of the Vail Police Department, which can be contacted at any time at (970) 479-2200.
