Braving the elements, the No. 4 Arkansas men's golf team has taken a commanding lead in the All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston. The relentless conditions, with winds exceeding 50 mph and temperatures dipping toward freezing, significantly challenged the competitors as they completed two demanding rounds. Despite these adversities, the Razorbacks displayed remarkable resilience. Arkansas surged ahead with a combined score of 21-over par, narrowly edging out Eastern Michigan, who posted a 23-over par. Tarleton State holds a close third position at 25-over. Integral to Arkansas' performance was the impressive play of Thomas Curry, Gerardo Gomes, and John Daly II. Curry posted a 5-over par overall, while Gomes and Daly recorded 6-over. Notably, Curry and Daly maintained composure in challenging conditions, both achieving even-par rounds in their second outing, while Gomes managed a commendable 3-over. Supporting the team, Erich Fortlage and Cam Smith ended the day 8-over and 10-over respectively. Meanwhile, Alvaro Pastor from Tarleton State turned heads with a phenomenal second round, climbing the leaderboard to finish as the sole player under par at 1-under. His substantial leap came after improving from a 5-over to a spectacular 6-under in the second round. As the tournament approaches its final round, Curry remains in a strong position, tied for third with UT-Arlington’s Arth Sinah. Gomez and Daly are also in contention, part of a four-way tie for fifth. The Razorbacks head into Tuesday’s concluding round not just testing their skills against opponents, but against the persistent and unpredictable Houston weather.
